Córdoba/Madrid- The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has been at the centre of the political controversy over the use of the official plane, a Falcon 900, to travel from Madrid to Castellón where on July 20, Friday, he attented a concert of The Killers, after meeting with the mayor and the president of the Valencian autonomous region.
Regarding this issue, the vice-president of the Government, Carmen Calvo, explained that Pedro Sánchez “had an institutional agenda all day, and at night he went to the FIB as if he had sat in a theatre.”
The vice-president detailed that the Spanish president was “all day in meetings” and “at night he went to a cultural event, that is, he had a cultural agenda at night”.
“What is less about that music, which are thousands of citizens who are there, than there is in a theatre watching an opera?”, The vice-president has questioned before the media.
PP and Ciudadanos ask for explanations
Both political formations criticized the chief executive for making use of official transportation to attend a private event, as they say, a concert of a band.
The parliamentary opposition is interested in the economic cost of moving the president to Castellón on the official plane and Ciudadanos, specifically, requests a “report on the spent fuel as well as the carbon footprint of said displacement”.
The party led by Albert Rivera wonders if an “informal meeting” of 45 minutes with the president of the Valencian Community, Ximo Puig, and the music concert in Castellón justify the “economic and environmental” cost of the trip.
“Does President Sánchez think of attending more personal entertainment events by official plane at the expense of the taxpayer?” asks, for its part the PP, which also wants to know if the president has weighed “pay out of pocket the cost of displacement.” (July 24, 2018, EFE/PracticaEspañol)
