The King and the Queen of Spain visit the Virgen del Rocío and the Doñana National Park

Madrid / The King and the Queen make a visit to Andalusia on Friday during which they will tour the Doñana National Park and go to the Church of Almonte (Huelva) in which until the month of May the Virgin of Rocio is venerated.

The King and the Queen will start their agenda attending the opening day of a congress held in Almonte in the framework of the activities organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Doñana Park.

There, accompanied by the fourth vice president and minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, they will meet with some of the organizers and participants of this event that will address the situation of that natural space and its main challenges for the future.

Felipe VI and Mrs. Letizia will move to the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption, where the image of the Virgen del Rocío is located.

This image, which is usually venerated in the hermitage of the village of El Rocío, is moved every seven years to the church of Almonte, where it will remain until next May.

This is going to be the first visit of Don Felipe and Doña Letizia to this sanctuary as kings, although they did it as princes in February 2006 and when the temple also housed the effigy of the White Dove.

Already in the afternoon they will move to the Doñana National Park to take a tour of some of their areas (also accompanied by Teresa Ribera) and learn about their situation with those responsible for this enclave.

From the Doñana shore they will cross the Guadalquivir river to the Bajo de Guía beach, in Sanlúcar de Barrameda (Cádiz).

A visit that is part of the acts of commemoration of the V Centenary of the first circumnavigation of the world by Juan Sebastián Elcano and Fernando de Magallanes, an expedition that left Sanlúcar on September 20, 1519. (February 14, 2020, EFE /PracticaEspañol)
