Paris / The Louvre Museum will remain open on the nights of February 21, 22 and 23, the last three days of the temporary exhibition of Leonardo Da Vinci, the oldest of the Renaissance painter that has taken place to date, as announced on Sunday President, Jean-Luc Martinez.
It will be the first time that the Louvre opens to the public throughout the night, from 9:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m., with a free ticket that must be pre-booked from Tuesday, February 11 on the web from the museum.
“An exceptional exposure requires an exceptional device. For visitors it is a unique opportunity to see and return to see all these assembled works of the genius of the Renaissance, ”Martinez said in the weekly“ Journal du Dimanche ”.
According to the director, about 30,000 tickets will be offered for these three new slots, an opportunity for those who were left without seeing the sample as all payment tickets were already sold out until its closing, on February 24.
“It’s a way of telling everyone that the museum is for everyone, it’s an occasion to come,” added Martinez, who recalled that of its 9.6 million visitors in 2019, 40% had free access to the museum by be under 18 or under 26 and a citizen of the European Union.
Hospitality and adventure
The institution wants to show an open and festive spirit on this occasion so it will offer coffee, tea and muffins during those nights.
A way of “developing hospitality”, another of the president’s goals, and celebrating the end of the “adventure” that has brought together more than a dozen of his canvases and a hundred drawings by Da Vinci, to celebrate the 500 anniversary of his death in Amboise (France) in 1519.
Of the barely twenty paintings that are preserved of him, the Louvre considers having gathered almost all of what could be put together, taking into account that “The Adoration of the Magi” or the fresco of “The Last Supper” cannot be displaced because of its fragility.
The exhibition, which opened its doors on October 24, featured during the first two months the delicate “Vitruvian Man”, a loan that was momentarily blocked by the Italian Justice. (February 11, 2020, EFE / PracticaEspañol)
