Pope Francis warned today, in the general audience on Wednesday, that congratulatory ahead of time “is a jinx “.
“I tell you one thing that will make you laugh: in my land to congratulate before time brings bad luck and who does it is a jinx”.
The exhortation to the faithful gathered at the Vatican in the Wednesday audience was well founded:
On Saturday 17 December, Pope Francis celebrates his 80th birthday and the priests who read the greetings of the faithful introduced among them several congratulations for the pontiff.
Taking advantage of the occasion, those gathered in the audience, of various races and backgrounds, anticipated and congratulated three days before the Holy Father for the anniversary of his birth, in several languages.
The papal warning did not help much, for shortly afterwards Francis was blowing a candle with the form of number 80, placed on a large cake.
Pope Francis has no special events scheduled on Saturday for his birthday so he will continue with his usual agenda and celebrate a Mass with the cardinals present in Rome.
The Vatican has arranged a series of e-mail addresses in different languages so that the faithful send their congratulations: PapaFrancisco80@vatican.va #Pontifex80 for social networks.
