The Spanish legislature starts with the presence of elected prisoners

Madrid / The XIII parliamentary Legislature in Spain starts this Tuesday in Congress and in the Senate with the tension that between the parties provokes the presence of the deputies and senator elected in prison by the trial of the procés, who attend the constituent sessions of the Chambers.

The Supreme Court, as yesterday allowed the attendance of the five Catalan parliamentarians to Congress and the Senate to deliver their credentials, has let this Tuesday attend the constituent sessions of the Chambers.

They will be guarded by the national police since their arrivals from the penitentiary center of Soto del Real, but, once in the hemicycle, the officers will retire and the deputies and the senator, elected at the polls on April 28, will be able to circulate freely between the seats and greet representatives of other political parties.

The Supreme Court has ordered, however, that Oriol Junqueras, Jordi Sánchez, Josep Rull and Jordi Turull, in Congress, and Raül Romeva, in the Senate, cannot have meetings or attend the media. Therefore, as soon as the plenarys are finished, they will return to prison.

Another point of interest will be the 24 deputies of Vox, which opens in the Spanish Parliament following the results of the elections of April 28. Its leader, Santiago Abascal, will be the first to abide by the position, according to the alphabetical order of the 350 elect in the hemicycle.

Legislature that in Congress will have the following features, according to the profiles of the deputies: there will be 53 per cent of men and 43 per cent of women, which is a clear increase from the previous one: from 139 to 166.

The age section is abundant between 41 and 50 years, up to 128 deputies, and thus, the average age is 47, the same as the previous legislature. (May 21st, 2019, EFE/Practica Español)
