Gaia travels by the space since the last 19 December.
In that date, took off a Russian rocket Soyuz, from the European Space Center of Kurú, in the French Guayana.
The European Space Agency (ESA) informs that the telescope made a “critical manoeuvre” to stay in stationary orbit regarding the Earth and the Sun.
Yet it will make another manoeuvre of correction the next week.
After that, once it has been checked that its entire systems works, begins a mission that will last five years:
Analyze up to 70 times each one of the stars, a billion ofstars.
Gaia will provide information about their position, their temperature, luminosity, composition and distance regarding the Earth.
Still, the scientists will have to wait around a decade to have a definitive atlas.
