The ten new portraits of the Spanish Royal Family

Madrid / La Casa Real has published on its website the new official portraits of Felipe VI and Mrs. Letizia, the first since they are kings, as well as those of Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sofia, who also appear for the first time in a portrait officer with their parents.

The last portraits of the King and the Queen were made in 2010, when they were still princes, and are those that were made available to public administrations after the proclamation of Felipe VI in June 2014.

The new series, by the Madrid portraitist Estela de Castro, includes ten photographs that were recently taken in the Royal Palace and the Palacio de la Zarzuela, according to sources from the Casa Real.

They are portraits in which the King and the Queen are seen, together and separately, dressed in gala and civil.

In addition, there is a photo of Don Felipe and Doña Letizia with their daughters, who in turn appear together in one of them and in two others individually.

In the family photo the king wears gray suit and light green tie, and the queen, red dress, while those of her daughters are stick pink in the case of the princess, and light blue in that of the princess.

Both wear those same dresses and loose hair both in their individual portraits and in the two together, although in the latter it is black and white.

Gala portrait

In the gala portrait, Don Felipe wears the captain general’s great label uniform, with the red sash and the light blue band and the Grand Necklace of the Order of Carlos III.

The scallop of the Golden Fleece hangs from the tie and the Plate of the Order of Carlos III and the Plates of the Great Crosses of Military Merit, Naval Merit and Aeronautical Merit are lit on the front of the jacket.

In the case of the Queen, she has been portrayed in the same pink floral dress she wore at the enthronement of the new Japanese emperor, Naruhito, held on October 20 in Tokyo.

As on that occasion, it carries the tiara de lis, one of the most prominent of the royal jeweler and reserved for special occasions, and also adds the Band and Plate of the Grand Cross of the Order of Carlos III.

Next to the gala photos in the Royal Palace, the new series collects images dressed in civilian clothes on a gray background in the Palacio de la Zarzuela and in which the king wears a gray suit with a magenta tone tie, and the queen a set dark blue.

For the new photos, the Casa Real has opted for Estela de Castro (Madrid, 1978), whose professional work is characterized by the use of natural light as the main element.

As it happened when Felipe VI acceded to the throne, the new photographs will be distributed through the National Heritage website (www.patrimonionacional.es) to replace the current ones in the state administrations, institutions, local entities and Other official bodies.

In the 2010 images, whose author was the Catalan Dany Virgili, the then princes were only photographed as civilians and Don Felipe had no beard.

The last portraits of the monarch that were incorporated into the official catalog date from December 2014. (February 11, 2020, EFE / PracticaEspañol)
