Washington DC / The president of the United States on Monday offered help to treat the prime minister of the United Kingdom who was moved to the intensive care unit due to COVID-19.
“I have asked two of the leading companies, these are brilliant companies… they have done an incredible jobs. And I have asked them to contact London immediately,” Donald Trump said in a daily press briefing about Boris Johnson.
“We will see if we can be of help. We have contacted all of Boris’ doctors and we will see what is going to take place, but they are ready to go,” he added.
Trump did not reveal any further details but said that “when you get brought into intensive care, it gets very, very serious with this particular disease. So, the two companies are there. And with what they are talking about, and it’s rather complex and has had really incredible results. We’re working with the FDA and everybody else, but we are working with London with respect to Boris Johnson.”
The president said he “found (Johnson) to be a fantastic person, a fantastic warm strong smart guy. He loves his country, you see that. He fought like hell for his country.”
The 55-year old UK leader was moved to the ICU on Monday evening after his condition worsened due to “persistent symptoms of coronavirus,” 11 days after he tested positive.
“Over the course of this afternoon, the condition of the Prime Minister has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital,” his spokesperson said in a statement released on Monday.
Around 6 pm GMT, Johnson was moved to the ICU at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, where he has been receiving treatment since Sunday evening.
Johnson had been isolated for 10 days at his official residence in central London and continued his work running the country.
Downing Street added that he was conscious and had asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputize, “where necessary.” (April 6, 2020, EFE/PracticaEspañol)
