The legendary Campbell’s soup can and pop portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy and Liz Taylor have landed at Caixafórum at the “Warhol. Mechanical Art” exhibition, which traces the trajectory of the North American artist through 350 pieces and will remain in Barcelona Until december 31.
The 350 pieces exhibits evoke the underground world that emerged in the early second half of the twentieth century in New York and the creative development of Andy Warhol (1928-1987) since he founded his legendary studio The Silver Factory until his death as ” universal icon beyond art, as happened with Picasso”, said the commissioner, José Lebrero, during the presentation the exhibition to the media.
The exhibition includes the collaboration of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, the MOMA in New York, the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris and the Tate in London, and includes paintings, sculptures, drawings, screenprints, audiovisual installations, covers of discs, posters, magazines, objects and photographic and sonorous material.
All stages of the painter are represented from his early drawings in the 1950s to his most iconic creations such as “Before and After” (1961), “Three Coke Bottles” (1962), “Brillo Soap Pads Box” (1964- 1968), “Gold Marilyn” (1962), “Liz” (1963) or “Mao” (1973, “Cow Wallpaper”) (1966), director of the Pistols Museum Patrick Moore said.
The exhibition is completed it by the recreation of the painter’s most famous installations and a documentation space, from the collection of the Canadian Paul Maréchal, which includes many collaborations of Warhol for album covers, posters, advertisements, books or television; and photographic portraits of the artist by Dennis Hopper, Philippe Halsman, Duane Michals, Robert Mappelthorpe, Steve Schapiro, Stephen Shore, David Gahr, Santi Visalli, Peggy Jarrell Kaplan and Alberto Schommer.
