WORLD CUP IS ALREADY IN MOSCOW

Moscow / The World Cup, the trophy that the winner of the World Cup will raise next July 15, arrived today in Moscow, after the biggest tour of its history, by the hand of the German Lothar Matthäus, champion in 1990.

Matthäus, who now works as a commentator, was in charge of removing the veil that covered the 6-kilogram solid gold trophy that is given to the world champions since Beckenbauer raised it in Germany 1974.

He was not satisfied with that, since Matthäus took the cup as he did 28 years ago and raised it over his head as if he had just defeated Maradona’s Argentina again with a penalty goal in the 87th minute.

Hundreds of people, including dozens of young footballers, approached the vicinity of the Kremlin and Red Square to see the trophy with eleven days to go before the opening match between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

On June 7, the trophy will come to its definitive residence, the Luzhnikí stadium, where the grand finale on July 15 will wait impatiently.

Between September 2017 and his arrival today in Moscow, the world cup visited more than fifty countries and covered almost 150,000 kilometers.

Matthäus also said that among the favourites to raise the World Cup are Germany, Brazil and Spain. And he mentioned Argentina in case Messi is in good shape.
